Carl and brother Rich Lindner enjoy the Open in 2004
© Western & Southern Open
The Western & Southern Open lost a true friend of the tournament with the passing of Carl Lindner Jr.
In addition to being an iconic figure throughout Cincinnati, Carl was a champion of the tournament and truly one of the pillars on which it was built. Thank you for your many years of support. You will be missed.
From Cincinnati.com:
Mr. Lindner was a tennis fan and helped get Greater Cincinnati's most famous tennis tournament recognized nationally:
"He loved tennis, and he was a true fan. We were the beneficiary of that. He started at the roots level. It's because of him we were able to blossom and grow to the next level. He was still very proud of it. What struck me the most about him was any time I'd be in a meeting with him, he was such a gentle man, soft-spoken and mild-mannered but he was so commanding. His business acumen was incredible. He never ruled with a hard fist. He was always just very kind."
-Elaine Bruening, CEO of Western & Southern Open
