Texas men and Southern women win titles at 3.5 Adult Nationals

The USTA Texas section men won the 3.5 Adult Nationals title.
The USTA Southern section women won the 3.5 Adult Nationals title.

Tucson, Ariz. -- The USTA Texas section men from Plano, Texas and the USTA Southern Section women from Little Rock, Arkansas captured national championships at the 2010 USTA League 3.5 Adult National Championships, held Oct. 29-31, at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz. 
The Texas men defeated a squad from the USTA Mid-Atlantic Section from Falls Church, Virginia, 4-1, in the final, after defeating a team from the USTA Missouri Valley Section in the semifinal round.
The Texas team is captained by Robert Bender and features Rene Alejandro Cuevas, Steven Nguyen, Berco Neiman, William Kaiser, Milan Morriswala, Tony Monk, William Toney, Paul To, Chau Truong, Matthew Schlosser and Mayis Kirakosyan and plays at the High Point Tennis Center. 
The Florida Section team from Fort Lauderdale picked up third place with a 3-2 victory over the USTA Missouri Valley Section entrant from Topeka, Kansas.
On the women’s side, the Southern team defeated the USTA Pacific Northwest Section squad from Bellevue, Washington, by a 3-2 margin in the championship match. In the semifinals, the Southern team downed a USTA Florida Section team from Jacksonville, 3-2.
The Southern team is captained by Teresa Williams and features Annie Turchi, Dee Whalen, Beth Wilborne, Martha James, Mary Carolyn Bailey, Shannon Taylor, Catherine Edwards, Katie Alice Staggs, Jennifer Moline, Laurie Houff, Wende Walraven, Catherine Piaton and Mary Kathryn Nelson and plays at the Little Rock Athletic Club.
Third place went to the USTA Caribbean section team, from San Juan, Puerto Rico which defeated the USTA Florida Section team from Jacksonville, 3-2 in the consolation match.
