Today’s women’s action at the Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open wasn’t limited to the confines of the Lindner Family Tennis Center – American tennis stars Melanie Oudin and Julie Boserup set aside any fears of heights and played a mini-match atop the recently completed tallest skyscraper in Cincinnati.
The one-of-a-kind building built by tournament title sponsor Western & Southern was the host to this unprecedented exhibition match, approximately 630 feet off the ground overlooking the Ohio River and the ballpark of the Cincinnati Reds. It’s defining architectural characteristic is a 130 foot steel decorative tiara that caps off the 42-floor building.
The players both took time to peer off the edge between points.
"It’s really amazing and we got the hang of it easily," remarked Oudin on the challenge of playing so high on a small court. Oudin shot to prominence recently with an out-of-nowhere run to the quarterfinals at the US Open.
