Southern men and New England women win titles at 4.0 Adult Nationals

The Southern men won the 4.0 Adult National Title.
The New England women won the 4.0 Adult National Title.
The USTA Southern Section men from Huntsville and Muscle Shoals, Ala. and the USTA New England Section women from Weston, Mass., captured national championships at the 2010 USTA League 4.0 Adult National Championships, held Oct. 22-24, at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.
The Southern men defeated a squad from the USTA Northern Section from St. Paul, Minn., 3-2 in the final, after defeating a team from the USTA Southwest Section in the semifinal round.
The team is captained by Paul Irvin and features Mark Rogers (co-captain), Billy McCarty, Harold Phillips, Todd Meckes, Kieran Byrne, Andrew Myrick, Jonathan Elston, Gregory Chando, Hilliard Powers and Jerrell Meares and plays at the Huntsville Athletic Club.
The Texas Section team from Lubbock, Texas, picked up third place with a 3-2 victory over the USTA Southwest Section entrant from Phoenix, Ariz.
On the women’s side, the New England team defeated a USTA Mid-Atlantic Section squad from Fairfax, Va., by a 3-2 margin in the championship match. In the semifinals, the New England team downed a USTA Southwest Section team from Flagstaff, Ariz., 3-2.
The New England team is captained by Carol Amidon and Jill Tayabji and features Hilary Allinson, Kerry Morton, Michelle Garfinkel, Amy Perlman, Lynne Smith and Kathy Franklin and plays at the Pine Brook Country Club.
Third place went to Southwest, which defeated a USTA Intermountain Section team from Boise, Idaho, 3-2 in the consolation match.
