Welcome to opening day at the Western & Southern Open! The first Saturday on the schedule is set up for the qualifiers, looking for a spot in the main draw.
The men’s action includes Wimbledon quarterfinalist Nick Kyrgios as well as familiar W&S face Bernard Tomic. Also included in the two-round qualifying tournament is a list of former Ohio State players, including Devin McCarthy from Cincinnati.
On the women’s side, former junior world number 1 Taylor Townsend is looking for a main draw slot, as well as Cincinnati native Nicole Gibbs, a two-time NCAA champion. Also playing as a wild card is Melanie Oudin, who captivated fans in 2009 with a round of 16 Wimbledon appearance and quarterfinal at the U.S. Open.
Today is also Graeter’s Kids Day, where kids can take part in some of the on-court and off-court festivities at the Grandstand. And don’t’ forget to check the practice schedule to see where some of your favorites may be playing. You’ll find that schedule and much more at www.cincytennis.com.
While you’re on the grounds, make sure you make a trip through the Food Court, with new additions Montgomery Inn and Graeter’s now available. And on the Dayton International Airport stage, you can listen to Mack West. Enjoy opening day at the Western & Southern Open!
