Around the Grounds
Wednesday August 14, 2013
Another busy day at the Western & Southern Open, but the action on the courts is just part of the attraction. Today, you’ll see 10 Grand Slam champions playing singles, and combined they have won 48 Grand Slam singles titles.  You’d be hard pressed to see that kind of lineup anywhere else outside of a Slam venue.
Tonight, the stars come out again at the annual Saks Fifth Avenue Night on the Runway and this year, featuring America’s first supermodel, Cheryl Tiegs. Cheryl is here this week for Cambria but she’ll fit right in with the high fashion show put on by Saks Fifth Avenue. It’s always a popular event, and it’s even bigger this year with Cheryl Tiegs!
The UC Health team is teaching 10 minute CPR classes today on the grounds as well. Stop by the UC Health tent and get some valuable information on how to do CPR. Take 10 minutes and learn how to save a life!
If you’re on the grounds at 5:30 p.m., make it a point to stop by the Robert Mondavi Private Selection Wine Garden on the west side of the Lindner Family Tennis Center. Not only can you try some of the best Mondavi wines, but every evening at 5:30 p.m. one of Greater Cincinnati’s celebrity chefs will offer a demonstration and tasting. Tonight it’s Chef Philippe, the University of Cincinnati’s Executive Chef and tomorrow it will be Todd Kelly from Orchids at the Palm Court, the American Culinary Federation’s USA Chef of the Year for 2011-12.
Don’t forget, if you get some great photos of Cheryl Tiegs, Chef Philippe or anyone while you’re here on the grounds, upload them to your PixWithMe app and enter your photo in our Western & Southern Open contest. If your photo is voted the favorite of the week, you’ll win two tickets to Sunday’s finals matches!
Whether you’re here for the day or for the week, there is plenty to do and see at the Western & Southern Open. For other suggestions on places to visit and things to do while you’re here, check out the Cincinnati Enquirer’s list at
