The Morning Line
Monday, August 12, 2013
Good morning from the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, where the big names and big matches highlight the action today. It’s our first full day of the main draw for both sides, and fans won’t be disappointed in the lineup.
It starts early with fan favorite and past Western & Southern Open finalist Mardy Fish opening on center court against Philipp Kohlschreiber, followed by grand slam winner Sam Stosur facing Svetlana Kuznetsova.
In doubles, fans will want to watch superstar Martina Hingis and her doubles partner Daniela Hantuchova as they face Anabel Medina Garrigues and Flavia Pennetta. That match will happen no earlier than 12:30 p.m. on Court 9.
The night session rocks as well, with Venus Williams facing qualifier Jana Cepelova and wind card and local favorite James Blake going against 6’8" Jerzy Janowicz. Both of those matches are on center court.
And this reminder, today is Military and Uniformed Personnel Appreciation Day at the Western & Southern Open. Any military member or first responder who shows a valid ID at the door will get a half price ticket for the day or evening session today. Personnel will be recognized during the matches and there will be special mentions during the National Anthem and coin flips. Also, 200 tickets are being donated to the Armed Forces Ticket Association.
Between matches, don’t miss the music of the Cla-Zels starting at noon and The G.Burton Story at 5 p.m. on the Wellington Get Well. Be Well. Music and Entertainment Stage. Music, food and fun along with world-class tennis. It’s all here today at the Western & Southern Open!
