Best Bites from Thursday

World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty, wild card Jil Teichmann and World No. 2 Naomi Osaka spoke to the media Thursday. Here are some of the best quotes from the day:

Jil Teichmann on emotions of upsetting World No. 2 Naomi Osaka…

“This is definitely one of my highlights (of my career). It has been a really tough year for me. I have had a lot of injuries. Getting this win and knowing that I had this level inside of me and finally showing it on court is a really nice feeling.”

Naomi Osaka on Western & Southern Financial Group matching her donation for Haiti…

“I was definitely really happy about that. I'm kind of sad now that I couldn't have gone farther, but I think the main thing was to, like, raise awareness, and I feel like I did that pretty well. Overall, I'm just glad that we were able to contribute something.”

Ashleigh Barty on getting ahead early…

“I think sometimes a scoreline in tennis can fool you. Even though it was quite a convincing scoreline, for most part of that match, there were crucial points within each and every game. I felt like I was able to win a lot of those big points today. As I said, getting ahead early in games was really helpful. Whether it be 40-Love or Love-30 on (Azarenka’s) serve, I was able to continually build pressure over time of winning those early points in games. I think I was able to control the ball a lot better today. I was able to use my slice effectively and set up my forehand a lot better today, and I felt overall it was a pretty solid match.”
