With a 20 to 25 percent increase in attendance each session at this year’s newly combined event and grounds expanded by 40 percent from last year, construction and improvements for the Lindner Family Tennis Center are not yet finished. In phase three of the complex’s expansion, a renovated food court will be available for fans in time for the 2012 Western & Southern Open.
Next year’s food court gives fans up to 14 cuisine options from which to choose. This will be an increase from 11 in 2011.
In addition to an increase in dining facilities, the expanded food court will include an abundance of shade. Entertainment stages and tented eating areas will also be constructed in time for next year’s tournament.
Approximately three times the current seating available will be provided for next year’s tournament. Fans can also catch the men and women compete for Cincinnati title as they eat with the implementation of video walls around the grounds.
During phase two of the construction project, six new courts, including a permanent Court 3 with 3,500 seats, were added to the complex. In addition, more restrooms, a new ticket office and a grand entry plaza were built.
Phase one saw the West Building, named the Paul Flory Player Center in honor of the tournament’s chairman, finished in 2010. The 52,000 square-foot building includes a player lounge and dining area, locker rooms, a press box, six luxury suites and 750 more seats.
