Lopez knocks out Del Potro at Japan Open

TOKYO (AP) - Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro was handed his second defeat in two matches since returning from injury, losing 6-3, 6-0 to sixth-seeded Feliciano Lopez of Spain in the first round of the Japan Open.

The 2009 U.S. Open champion lost to Olivier Rochus at the Thailand Open in his first appearance last week after being sidelined eight months because of a wrist injury.

Elsewhere, Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver defeated Argentina's Eduardo Schwank 6-4, 6-4 while seventh-seeded Dmitry Tursunov of Russia beat Latvia's Ernests Gulbis 6-3, 6-4.

Top-ranked Rafael Nadal of Spain has a first-round bye and will play Colombia's Santiago Giraldo on Tuesday in the second round.
