With just two days until the 2011 Western & Southern Open begins, the Lindner Family Tennis Center is coming to life. Thousands of trees have been planted, flowers now line every court, and the first cases of tennis balls have been put to use as many players have already arrived in Cincinnati and begun practicing for the tournament.
On Thursday, former champions Andy Roddick and Jelena Jankovic were among the players practicing, while many other players were arriving into town, including World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki.
All that is missing are the fans, but on Friday night first members of the public will get an initial look at the site expansion during the sold out 2011 Draw Party. In addition to live music, food and drink, the Friday evening event will include the making of the singles draws for the Western & Southern Open.
Fans making their way to the site this weekend have much to look forward too. The new Court 3, which will serve as a third television court this year, has open seating to all ticket holders. Also, the new Champions Courts allow for fans to walk right up to the fence to view matches and practice sessions. The Retail Plaza and Champions Wall also make their debut to the public this weekend.
