Indian Wells, Calif. – Tennis and juggling go hand-in-hand for Nick Gregory of the USTA Middle States 4.5 Men’s Senior Team.
The 56-year-old from Philadelphia, who is playing in the 2010 USTA League 4.5 Senior National Championships, is a professional juggler.
Gregory began juggling when he was in high school while growing up in Cambridge, Mass. "I watched a lot of street performers," Gregory said. "I’ve been doing it professionally since 1980."
While waiting for his team’s match to begin at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, Gregory spoke about how juggling helps his tennis game. "It’s great for your eye-hand coordination," he said. "It keeps your…muscles sharp and keeps you balanced."
Gregory works for The Give & Take Jugglers (www.jugglers.com), a Philadelphia-based company comprised of jugglers who give performances at school assemblies, corporate events, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, parties, seasonal and themed events, banquets and libraries.
"I like going into schools and performing for children," he said. "I enjoy having the schools kids have a good day at school after our assembly. There is a lot of joy in their eyes."
