A rare gathering of the most high-profile tennis executives in the world was just one way to honor Paul Flory, Cincinnati tournament chairman, on the day a new $10 million player facility was dedicated in his name.
Present to assist in the announcement of the newly minted "Paul Flory Player Center" were:
•John Barrett - Chairman, President and CEO, Western & Southern Financial Group
•Steve Champlin – USTA Board Member
•Jim Curley –Chief Professional Tournaments Officer & US Open Tournament Director, USTA
•Stacey Allaster – Chairman and CEO, Sony Ericsson WTA Tour
•Adam Helfant –Executive Chairman and President, Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP)
Flory has served in tournament management since 1975 when he was appointed Tournament Director. He currently is titled Tournament Chairman and his son Bruce assumes the Director role. The elder Flory is widely credited for the immense success that the Cincinnati event has become. After the formal announcement, Curley offered some good natured ribbing by presenting Flory, a Yale graduate, with a Harvard t-shirt.
