Indian Wells, Calif. – It’s no secret that Orlando is one of the top tourist destinations in the United States and the women’s USTA Florida Section 5.0 team is helping to spread the word.
There has been a time-honored tradition of teams exchanging gifts during a USTA League National Championship and that tradition continued this weekend at the 2010 USTA League 5.0 Adult National Championships at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The Orlando women brought a gift for each of their opponents which consists of a tee-shirt, a magnet and a pen from the Orlando/Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
"We get tens of thousands of visitors every year," said team member Pam Saffran. "So this was a way to promote our beautiful city."
Florida Section team captain Chris Bartos thought of the idea for the Orlando-themed gift. Unfortunately, Bartos could not make the trip to Indian Wells due to an injury.
The gifts from the Florida Section team have been well received according to Saffran. "They (players) were excited to see what was on the tee-shirt representing Disney and Universal Studios," she said.
After dropping 2-1 decisions on Friday to the USTA Intermountain and Middle States Sections, the Florida women will be looking for their first victory of the 2010 USTA League 5.0 Adult National Championships on Saturday.
