Novak Djokovic, the undisputed World No. 1, continues his historic run this season in the quarterfinals at the Western & Southern Open.  The two-time Cincinnati finalist in ’09 and ’08 won the Australian Open and Wimbledon earlier this year.
After taking out Olympus US Open Series winner in Washington Radek Stepanek in the Round of 16 in straight sets, Djokovic next faces the No. 6 seed Gael Monfils.
On Center Court’s first night match Friday, the Serb takes on Monfils in a rematch of their Montreal quarterfinal last week. Djokovic claimed that win 6-2, 6-1. He now looks to improve his 7-0 head-to-head over the Frenchman.
The only man to claim five ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments in one season, he’s currently enjoying a 55-1 record in 2011. Djokovic’s only loss this year came at the French Open semifinals to four-time Cincinnati champion Roger Federer.
The Serb now holds a perfect 31-0 on hard courts in 2011.
In other night matches Friday, former World No. 1 and '09 Cincinnati winner Jelena Jankovic, who recently defeated 2010 French Open champion Francesca Schiavone in front of a packed Grandstand last night, faces China’s Peng Shuai for a spot in the semifinals.
The world No. 1 teams of Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebtonik and the Bryan brothers are also playing in Friday night matches.
