Qualifying for the 2010 Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open began Saturday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. The final round will be held Sunday, after which 12 players will advance into the main draw.
The qualifying field of 48 was whittled down to 26 as six seeds were upset during the action on Saturday, including two of the top three seeds in the draw.
Su-Wei Hsieh defeated top seed Kaia Kanepi 6-4 1-6 6-2 while American Julie Ditty defeated No. 3 seed Elena Baltacha 4-6 6-3 7-6(5).
Ditty was one of four American winners on Sunday. Joining Ditty in the final round of qualifying will be countrywomen Vania King, Jill Craybas and Varvara Lepchenko.
The final round of qualifying will get underway at 10 a.m. Sunday. Tickets for the qualifying action are $5.
