Maria Sharapova continued to roll in Cincinnati as she defeated Andrea Petkovic in straight sets. Sharapova, the No. 10 seed, will meet No. 7 seed Agnieszka Radwanska who defeated Alisa Kleybanova earlier in the day. 
 
Wimbledon runner-up and 2006 champion Vera Zvonareva survived multiple rain delays and a 5-2 deficit in the third set to defeat fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko 7-5, 2-6, 7-6(2). The match was delayed for a total of just under 3.5 hours. Zvonareva advances to the Round of 16 where she will face Flavia Pennetta who defeated qualifier Monica Niculescu 6-0, 6-1 earlier in the day.
 
French Open champion Francesca Schiavone became the first Top 8 seed to fall this year losing to Elena Vesnina 6-4, 6-4. Ana Ivanovic followed up her upset of No. 9 seed Victoria Azarenka with a victory over Yaroslava Shvedova and will play Vesnina tomorrow in the Round of 16.
 
No. 3 seed Elena Dementieva became the highest seed to lose thus far, falling to Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 6-3. Pavlyuchenkova will meet No. 13 seed Shahar Peer who defeated qualifier Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-3, 6-2.
 
No. 8 seed Na Li and No. 12 seed Yanina Wickmayer both advanced to the Round of 16 where they will play each other tomorrow.
 
No. 2 seed Caroline Wozniacki rolled past Austrian Sybille Bammer 6-0, 6-2 in a match that took just 51 minutes. She will play No. 16 seed Marion Bartoli, who was the first player to make the Round of 16 yesterday.
 
Young American Christina Mchale advanced with another upset, defeating qualifier Ayumi Morita of Japan. She awaits the winner of Kim Clijsters and Dinara Safina.
