Harlon Matthews, PTR Clinician and nationally-ranked Wheelchair Tennis Player, recently conducted an Instructing Wheelchair Tennis workshop during the USTA Arkansas annual meeting.

With the support of Danny Needham from the ATA office, the workshop was a HUGE SUCCESS and will definitely move wheelchair tennis forward in Arkansas.

There were 13 participants in the workshop and three were wheelchair tennis players.  The Arkansas TSR, Chris Stuart was among the attendees.   All were enthusiastic about instructing wheelchair tennis along with developing and sustaining programs in their respective areas of the state.  One pro, Ed Newlin, already instructs five players in wheelchairs and came to learn more to improve the skill levels of his players and to expand his program.

The Arkansas Tennis Association displayed a firm commitment and enthusiastic desire to grow wheelchair tennis in the state.  Harlon also spoke to their Board of Directors about Diversity in Tennis.  Thanks to the ATA, the Southern Tennis Association and PTR for putting on this event.
