NEW YORK (Aug. 20, 2020) – The singles draws for the Western & Southern Open were made Thursday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, the site of the 2020 tournament.
World No. 1 and 2018 Western & Southern Open champion Novak Djokovic is top seed for the ATP Masters 1000 tournament 2016 champion Karolina Pliskova is the No. 1 seed in the WTA Premier five event.
Djokovic and defending champion Daniil Medvedev are among the top eight seeds who will have opening round byes. Three other past winners are in the field – 2017 champion Grigor Dimitrov will face Ugo Humbert in the opening round, 2014 winner Marin Cilic will take on No. 12 seed Denis Shapovalov and two-time champion Andy Murray will play American Frances Tiafoe.

Pliskova, two-time winner Serena Williams and defending champion Madison Keys have byes in the women’s draw. Kim Clijsters, the 2010 winner, will face American Jennifer Brady while 2013 champion Victoria Azarenka will play No. 15 seed Donna Vekic.
Cincinnati’s Caty McNally will open against France’s Alize Cornet, while fellow American teenager Coco Gauff will play No. 13 seed Maria Sakkari.
