Azarenka Claims Second Western & Southern Open Title
NEW YORK (Aug. 29, 2020) - Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the Western & Southern Open final due to a left hamstring injury.
By walkover, Victoria Azarenka is the Western & Southern Open champion, claiming the title for the second time after winning it in 2013. It is the 21st title of Azarenka’s career, and her first since Miami in 2016.
“I’m sorry to have to withdraw today with an injury,” Osaka said. “I pulled my left hamstring yesterday in the second set tiebreak and it has not recovered overnight as I had hoped. This has been an emotional week and I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support.”
