Two former champions in action monday

MASON, Ohio – Two former Cincinnati champions will join two former Grand Slam champions in action on Monday for the opening day of the 2009 Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open.

Kim Clijsters, the 2005 US Open champion, headlines the night session, and will take the court against No. 12 seed Marion Bartoli following the opening night festivities featuring Nick Lachey.

The ninth seed, Victoria Azarenka, leads off the day session on Center Court when she takes on Kaia Kanepi at 11 a.m. Following that will be 2005 Cincinnati champion Patty Schnyder as she plays Argentine Gisela Dulko.

American qualifier Melanie Oudin will close out the day session on Center Court when she faces 2008 French Open champion Ana Ivanovic.
Monday’s day session includes action on a total of four courts, and among those in action outside Center Court will be 2007 Cincinnati champion Anna Chakvetadze who will play Elina Vesnina in the third match on Grandstand.

In total, 12 singles and six doubles matches will be contested on Monday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
