MASON – Five players who have spent time in the Top 10 in their career and nine Americans are in the qualifying draw for the 2009 Western & Southern Financial Group Masters.
Ivan Ljubicic (career high No. 3),
Rainer Schuettler (No. 5),
Nicolas Lapentti (No. 6),
Marcos Baghdatis (No. 8) and
Mikhail Youhzny (No. 8) will have to win a pair of qualifying matches in order to get into the main draw that begins Monday.
The American contingent in the draw includes
Rajeev Ram, who won his first career title earlier this summer in Newport,
Jesse Levine, who reached the third round at Wimbledon this year, and
Devin Britton, who won the 2009 NCAA singles championship this past spring while playing for Mississippi.
The 28 players will play a two round tournament with seven players advancing into the main draw.
