MASON – The top five players in the world will be in action Wednesday in the second round of the 2009 Western & Southern Financial Group Masters.
Roger Federer, the World No. 1, new No. 2
Andy Murray, No. 3
Rafael Nadal and No. 4
Novak Djokovic will all be action during the day session on Center Court, while No. 5
Andy Roddick headlines the night session.
In all, seven of the top 10 will be in action as 14 second round matches are contested.
WEDNESDAY ORDER OF PLAYFederer, a champion in Cincinnati in 2005 and 2007, will take on
Jose Acasuso of Argentina. Federer is 4-0 against Acasuso, including a 6-4 6-3 in the quarterfinals here in 2005.
Murray, the defending champion who claimed his fourth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title in Montreal last week, will take on Spaniard
Nicolas Almagro. Almagro won the only previous meeting between the two, at last year’s French Open.
Nadal will be playing Italian
Andreas Seppi. Nadal owns a 3-1 edge over Seppi, but the Italian won their only hardcourt meeting.
Djokovic, last year’s runner-up in Cincinnati, will face former Top 10 player
Ivan Ljubicic. They’ve played three times, with Djokovic winning the last two without dropping a set.
It will be an all-American battle at night, as Roddick battles
Sam Querrey, who has reached three finals already this summer. Roddick, the 2003 and 2006 champion here, is 3-0 against Querrey, including a pair of wins in 2009.
Top 10 players
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (No. 7) and
Nikolay Davydenko (No. 8) will also be in action on Wednesday. Joining them on the schedule will be a pair of former World No. 1s,
Lleyton Hewitt and
Marat Safin.
Tickets still remain for both sessions.
