2010 Women's Open Preview

The 2010 Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open kicks off Monday with a full slate of matches on the schedule.

Monday’s schedule features a Grand Slam champion and a pair of Grand Slam tournament runner-ups.

Ana Ivanovic, the 2008 French Open champion, will battle No. 9 seed Victoria Azarenka, the co-leader of the 2010 Olympus US Open Series in the headline match on Monday night.

This will be the third meeting between Azarenka and Ivanovic. They have split their previous two meetings, both of which have come on clay. In 2009, Azarenka won in straight sets in the fourth round of the French Open, but Ivanovic returned the favor at Rome earlier this year.

That match will follow the special opening ceremony for the tournament. Mia Carruthers of MTV’s hit show "Taking the Stage" will be the feature performer kicking off the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters & Women’s Open.  The Cincinnati Dance and Movement Center will also perform in the half-hour show.

American Vania King, herself a Grand Slam champion after winning the Wimbledon doubles title this summer, open play for the 2010 tournament when she plays Nuria Llagostera Vives, who last year played in the doubles final here in Cincinnati.

Dinara Safina, a three-time finalist at Grand Slam tournaments, will be in action Monday when she battles Italian Roberta Vinci.

Rounding out the day session on Stadium Court will be 2007 Wimbledon runner-up Marion Bartoli as she takes on Anabel Medina Garrigues.

A couple of former quarterfinalists in Cincinnati headline the action on the outer courts on Monday. Sabine Lisicki, a 2008 quarterfinalist, will open the action on Grandstand Court against Monica Niculescu. Later on that same court, 2007 quarterfinalist Olga Govortsova will take on No. 13 seed Shahar Peer.

Tickets remain available for both sessions on Monday as well as all other sessions during both the women’s and men’s tournaments.
