Five Dollar Passes Now Available!

Good morning from the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. It’s the first day of play at the Western & Southern Open with qualifier action now under way for both the men and women. If you’re heading to Mason this morning and don’t have your tickets yet, you’re in luck! Grounds passes for $5 are now on sale. That will get you access to the outer courts, not to mention the enhanced food court and entertainment.
Some of the players to watch in the qualifiers today include, on the women’s side, 2009 U.S. Open sensation Melanie Oudin, who made it to the Open quarterfinals that year. She earned her first WTA title earlier this year on grass at Birmingham. Also, world number 74 Coco Vandeweghe will be playing to make her way into the main draw. Other familiar names, Vania King, Mirjana Lucic and Jill Craybas take the court.
Also, for local fans, Mason, Ohio’s own, Komal Safdar, is a wild card playing on Court 4 this afternoon, facing Johanna Larsson. A graduate of Ursuline Academy, Komal now plays for Syracuse University. During her high school career she was Greater Cincinnati player of the year in 2009 and 2010 and a National All-American. She was the Doubles state champion in 2010 and four-time First Team All-State.
On the men’s side, a familiar name is former world number 15 Robby Ginepri, who advanced to the semifinals at the Western & Southern Open and US Open in 2005. You’ll also see the youngest entrant, 18-year old wild card recipient Christian Harrison, the younger brother of Ryan Harrison. You can find the entire qualifier info here
