Around the Grounds
Saturday, August 17
It is Super Saturday here at the Western & Southern Open, as the semifinals will determine who moves into Sunday’s finals. There’s some exciting tennis ahead, but lots of folks are still buzzing about Friday night’s matchup for the ages, between defending champion Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. It was the 31st time they’ve faced each other on the court, and the first time they’ve done so at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. It was an exciting match, and congratulations to both Federer and Nadal for quite the show.
While there’s still lots of tennis going on this weekend, don’t forget to come to the matches early and enjoy the food court and the music before and between matches. Playing at the Wellington Get Well. Be Well. Music and Entertainment Stage Saturday evening are the Kentucky Struts from 5-7 p.m., then later it’s Veronica Grim & The Blue Ribbon Boys from 8:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
And tonight the area’s young professionals have their annual "Night at the Open" gathering to celebrate the wrapup of another huge tennis tournament in Mason.
Grabbed an autograph yet? That’s one of the most exciting parts about the Western & Southern Open—you get to watch world-class tennis up close, and you get to watch world-class players practice just feet away from your grandstand seat. Players are more than willing to sign for you—and they’ve made a fan for life when they do.
Once again, come early to the session and beat the traffic. Get a good parking space and relax before the women’s semifinals with good music, a cold drink and food from our 14 food court area vendors. Enjoy the final weekend of tennis at the Western & Southern Open!
