Good morning, as we head into Championship Weekend at the Western & Southern Open! The next three days we’ll be seeing many of the top players in the world fight it out for the men’s and women’s championships. Today’s action will have a lot to say toward who will take home the Rookwood Trophy.
The day session starts with third seed Stan Wawrinka on Center Court facing Julien Benneteau, and after that, top women’s seed Serena Williams goes against Jelena Jankovic in a 2008 US Open Final rematch. Tommy Robredo, who took out top men’s seed Novak Djokovic Thursday, come back to face fellow countryman David Ferrer.
Grandstand play opens with Wimbledon doubles winners Vasek Pospisel and Jack Sock against number 2 ranked doubles team Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares. And the night Grandstand schedule opens with former W&S Open champion Maria Sharapova facing second seed Simona Halep. Sharapova defeated Simona Halep to win the title at this year's French Open.
Back on Center Court, the evening starts with a blockbuster matchup as Andy Murray faces Roger Federer, and in the nightcap ninth seed Anna Ivanovic goes against Elina Svitolina. Svitolina, who turns 20 on September 12, is the first teenager to reach the quarterfinals in Cincinnati since Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in 2010.
On the Dayton International Airport Stage in the Food Court, the music menu features Zac Rowe, 12-2 p.m., Bluesbent from 5-7 p.m. and Ben Knight &TheWelldiggers, 8:45-10:45 p.m.
And the Robert Mondavi Private Selection Wine Garden celebrity chef food demonstration this evening features Danny Combs from Sotto from the Boca Group.
